How to make an Ethernet Cable - A Video Demonstration

How to make an Ethernet Cable - Video Demo
  • The cable length between a computer and the switch should not exceed 100m
  • You should use RJ-45 connectors
  • You can use CAT-5 or CAT-5E or CAT-6 cable
    CAT-5 speed is 100 Mbps
    CAT-5E speed is 350 Mbps
    CAT-6 speed is 1000 Mbps
  • Between PC and Switch, you should use straight cable. Between Switch to Switch, you should use CROSSOVER CABLE.
  • Straight cable means, pin 1&2 of one end plug will be connected to pin no.1&2 of the other end plug.
  • Crossover cable means, pin no.1 &2 of one end plug will be connected to pin no. 3 & 6 of the other end plug.
  • The latest equipments are coming with AUTO MDI/MDIX feature. Which means, you need not worry about straight and cross cables. The equipment itself will sense which wires are transmit pair and which wires are receive pairs and AUTOmatically, it changes the pair internally, electronically. So AUTO MDI/MDIX means, automatic crossover detection support.
  • MDI stands for Media Dependent Interface. MDIX stands for Media Dependent Interface Crossed.
